BROWN-FORMAN RETAILER OF THE YEAR
RYAN MALONEY is 3rd generation in the spirits industry. In 1992 he left his job as an investigator for the state securities division to start a small wine wholesale company. In 2OOO Ryan bought Julio’s Liquors, a 36,OOO square foot retail facility in Westborough after his family decided to divest itself of the liquor business. Since then he has never looked back. With the support of his family and hardworking staff, the store ranks in the top five worldwide for beer selection; has a wine department that blends its own wines; and boasts a spirits department that runs the biggest whisk(e)y festival in New England.
Ryan is very involved with his local community and is an ardent supporter of local charities. Through events and fundraisers at Julio’s Liquors, he has raised thousands of dollars for the Worcester County Food Bank, Veterans Inc., and Sweats for Vets. Just this past year Ryan was honored by the Aleppo Shriners for raising over $4O,OOO for the Children’s Transportation Fund. “I truly love the spirits industry. It’s changed over the years, but the people and the creativity still keep it fun,” said Ryan.
