OBITUARY – HAROLD CURRIE
HAROLD CURRIE, 91, the war hero and whisky marketer passed away on March 15. He fought World War II tank battles in Europe with the British army, marketed Scotch whisky, wore kilts during visits to Japan, served as chairman of Scotland’s St. Mirren soccer club and as an international soccer referee, and founded a distillery on the Scottish Isle of Arran. He spent much of his career managing the Chivas Regal whisky brand for Seagram Company and later working for Pernod-Ricard SA. Widely traveled as a whisky marketer, he especially enjoyed trips to Japan. He often wore kilts during those visits and once devoted an hour to posing for pictures with wedding parties in a hotel.
