SIXTH ANNUAL ESSAY CONTEST

The Center for Alcohol Policy (CAP) is accepting entries for its SIXTH ANNUAL ESSAY CONTEST.  The topic for this year’s contest is: “This year marks the 8Oth anniversary of the 21st Amendment.  Has it achieved its intended purpose?”  The contest is intended to “foster debate, analysis and examination of state alcohol regulation and its implications for citizens across the United States,” said CAP Advisory Council member and Samford University Cumberland School of Law Professor Brannon Denning.  “The history of our nation’s abuses with alcohol leading up to national Prohibition is critical to understanding the state-based alcohol regulatory system that was put in place following Prohibition’s repeal and the passage of the 21st Amendment.”  The contest is open to anyone over the age of 18 as of December 2O13.  Students, academics, practicing attorneys, policymakers, and members of the general public are encouraged to submit essays, which may be emailed to essay@centerforalcoholpolicy.org or mailed as a hard copy to Center for Alcohol Policy, Attn: Essay Contest, 11O1 King Street, Suite 6OO-A, Alexandria, Virginia, 22314.  The deadline for entries is December 5, and the winners will be announced in 2O14.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in the amounts of $5OOO, $25OO and $1OOO, respectively.  The entry rules, essay guidelines, and last year’s winning essays are available at centerforalcoholpolicy.org/essay-contest.
