THE AMAZING PAPER WINE BOTTLE

Invented by Martin Myerscough, GreenBottle, the world’s first paper wine bottle, is set to hit supermarket shelves in the UK. The entrepreneur has seen huge interest in the bottle from Australia, California and France, and plans to take his invention across the globe next year. “Even a few French producers have shown an interest,” Myerscough said, emphasizing, “The focus for now is getting the bottles on the shelf in the UK.” In terms of pricing, he indicated the bottle would be under £5, but cautioned that if priced too cheaply it would “devalue the brand”. Myerscough intends to sell the technology. The machinery is capable of producing 5O bottles a minute. The compostable bottle’s carbon footprint is 1O% of that of a glass bottle. It has a plastic lining similar to those found in bag-in-box wine to keep the contents fresh. Tests are still being run on shelf life but it is anticipated to be the same as bag-in-box wine: 9 to 12 months.
