Chances are, if you see someone selling nice bottles of Cabernet from the back of a truck, they’ve been stolen. Police detectives in Bell, California, recently arrested two men on suspicion of trying to sell stolen wine. Acting on a tip, detectives spotted a man trying to sell bottles of 2OO7 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon in a parking lot, then followed him and another man to a self-storage unit. There the detectives arrested the two men and found an estimated 1OOO cases of wine with what police said was a retail price of $5OO,OOO. Authorities said the wine had been on board a tractor-trailer that was stolen in Ontario earlier in the week. Theft of wine cargo is fairly common, police said, since the bottles are relatively easy to sell and difficult to track. Instead of counterfeit wines, now we have to worry about hot wines!
