KEEPING the DOCTOR AWAY

RUNNING
A FEW MILES
may
help you to feel refreshed and invigorated but having an
occasional relaxing glass of wine might make you feel just
as good. A new study finds that moderate drinkers feel
better about their personal health than abstainers, light
drinkers or heavy drinkers. HealthDay News recently reported
that researcher Michael French and colleagues at the
University of Miami reviewed US Census Bureau data on more
than 31,OOO adults and found that male moderate drinkers
were 1.27 times more likely to report above-average health
than lifetime abstainers or former light drinkers. Also,
women who drank in moderation were more than twice as likely
to report above-average health as abstainers. Moderate
drinking was defined as consuming 4 to 14 drinks weekly for
men and 4 to 7 drinks per week for women. The study appeared
in the July/August edition of the American Journal of Health
Promotion. Just another reason to keep the wine fridge
stocked.
