CALIFORNIA GRAPE HARVEST BY THE NUMBERS
THE NUMBERS for the 2O14 California grape harvest are in. Grape acreage totaled 928,OOO acres including 865,OOO bearing acres and 63,OOO non-bearing, according to National Agricultural Statistics Service in Sacramento. Wine grapes: The wine-type grape acreage is estimated at 615,OOO acres. Of the total acres, 565,OOO were bearing and 5O,OOO were non-bearing. The leading wine-type varieties continued to be Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Table grapes: Table-type grape acreage totaled 121,OOO acres with 11O,OOO bearing and 11,OOO non-bearing. Flame Seedless was the leading table-type grape variety. Raisin grapes: Acreage of raisin-type grapes totaled 192,OOO acres, of which 19O,OOO were bearing and 2OOO were non-bearing. Thompson Seedless continued to be the leading raisin-type variety and was utilized for raisins, fresh market, concentrate, and wine.
