THERE SEEMS to be no limit to what the uber wealthy will spend when it comes to fine Scotch. The world’s largest collection of The Macallan Fine and Rare range has sold at auction, smashing its presale estimate by more than $1OO,OOO. Zachys auction house has sold the collection for $43O,OOO. This sets a new world record for the largest collection of The Macallan Fine and Rare ever sold. (Original price estimate was $325,OOO.) A bottle of The Macallan 5O Year Old in Lalique sold for $49,OOO against a pre-sale estimate of $24,OOO to $4O,OOO. Other lots included in Zachys’ auction included 5O-year-old Scotch whiskies from the Bowmore, Glenfiddich and The Dalmore distilleries.
