SNOBBY WINE THIEVES

JUST CALL them robbers with discerning palates. A man and a woman caught on surveillance video are suspected of having expensive tastes in wine and swiping $14,OOO worth of fine wines from a Wegman’s in Chestnut Hill. Some of the bottles stolen were priced at more than $1OOO each, police said. The thefts are believed to have occurred over at least three days. It’s not clear how many bottles were taken. Two of the stolen bottles taken on June 12 and June 13 were 2OO6 Mouton Rothschild, renowned as one of the world’s great wines. Newton police said the bottles were priced at $1399.99. Police were called to Wegman’s again on June 18 when two more bottles of wine – a $3O9 bottle and a $16O bottle – were reported stolen. The police said the same individuals are suspected of that theft. Although the company sells fine wine in the $1OOO range, the bulk of its wines are in the lower priced segment.
