LEJAY CRÈME DE CASSIS LIQUEUR

LEJAY CRÈME DE CASSIS LIQUEUR – The House of Lejay Lagoute has released its Crème de Cassis de Dijon (18% ABV) in the US.  The blackcurrant liqueur was created by Auguste-Denis Lagoute in 1841.  Two varieties of French blackcurrants, Noir de Bourgogne and Black Down, are harvested in mid-summer and are separately macerated in French spirit in wooden and stainless steel vats.  The solid part of the maceration is then pressed and blended with the free-run juice to create the so-called “virgin juice”.  There is no filtration.  The mixture is sweetened with crystal sugar to which Noir de Bourgogne Bourgeon, a blackcurrant bud infusion, is added.  Suggested retail for a 37ml bottle is $2O.  Available from Carolina Wine & Spirits.
