CHATTY URINALS
When it comes to combating drunk drivers, law enforcement will try just about any tactic if it works, no matter how bizarre. Take the case of the chatty urinals. A total of 4OO talking “urinal cakes” were recently distributed across Detroit as part of a trial to combat drunks from getting behind the wheel. Each device has a built-in recorded voice which says: “Listen up. That’s right, I’m talking to you. Had a few drinks? Maybe a few too many? Then do yourself and everyone else a favor: Call a sober friend or a cab. Oh, and don’t forget to wash your hands.” Each disposable unit costs about $19 and lasts about three months before the battery runs out. According to Wizmark, the company that makes them, they are activated by motion, rather than moisture. Wizmark also makes urinal deodorizers that “sing and flash lights”. If nothing else, the experience of encountering a talking device in the urinal should make most people call it a night.
