OBITUARY: ADELE “DELLIE” REX

ADELE “DELLIE” REX, 68

Local wine pioneer Dellie Rex passed away suddenly on June 7 from a stroke.
Dellie attended Connecticut College and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1966.
She earned her MBA from Babson and was extremely active in the fine wine industry for over 25 years
as a wine educator, author and marketer.
Dellie founded her own company, Wine Experiences, in Boston,
as well as Rex Associates, a regional marketing company for wineries and importers of fine wine.
She was Adjunct Professor of Wine Appreciation for 12 years at Boston University’s School of Hospitality Administration
and later she headed the beverage program for four years at New England Culinary Institute in Vermont.
A member of the Society of Wine Educators and of La Commanderie de Bordeaux, an honorary society for wine connoisseurs,  she also served on the Board of the Elizabeth Bishop Wine Resource Center in Boston.
In 1999, boston magazine listed Dellie as “One of the Fifty Most Intriguing Women in New England”,
dubbing her “the wine expert’s wine expert”.
In 2OO6 Dellie Rex was featured in the January issue of massachusetts beverage business.
She was the co-author of the well-received textbook, About Wine, now in its second edition.
In addition to a love of opera, jazz and classical music, Dellie was an avid reader
and debater of current political and social issues.
She loved hiking and camping – climbing nearly every 4OOO-footer in New England
as well as several trails and mountains in the Colorado Rockies.
In addition to her husband Jeffrey A. Michael and her son Daniel F. Rex, she is survived by a large and loving extended family.
