Valley of the Moon 2OO9 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and 2OO8 Zinfandel
The big, fruit-forward character of the Sonoma Coast Chardonnay grapes is complemented by traditional winemaking techniques – barrel fermentation, malolactic fermentation and seven months aging in small French and eastern European oak barrels.  Aromas of pear, lemon and vanilla dominate the Chardonnay, accented by lime and kiwi notes.  The flavors are full and forward: tropical fruit, lemon zest, kiwi, and a hint of cream.  Richness and weight in the mouth are balanced by crisp acidity leading to a bright, lingering finish.  Suggested retail is $16.  The Zinfandel was aged for 18 months in French and American oak barrels and blended in small percentages of Petite Sirah and Syrah.  It has boysenberry and blueberry aromas, backed by subtle nuances of cumin and baking spice.  The medium-bodied flavors mix raspberry, boysenberry and spice with subtle espresso and black pepper.  Suggested retail is $16.  Available from Horizon Beverage Company.
