WSWA SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
The WSWA Educational Foundation has announced the winners of its inaugural college scholarship competition. The foundation will award college scholarships in the amount of $25OO each to four talented children of WSWA member company employees. The four scholarship winners were selected from an extremely competitive field of 167 applicants. They were chosen based upon their scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities and essays on their career goals.
Six independent judges reviewed the applications and chose the winners. The diverse group of judges included a state court judge, a professor from a top-tier school, a principal at a charter school, a CEO of a social responsibility company, and a prominent attorney in Louisiana. The WSWA Educational Foundation will offer these scholarships again next year. The scholarship competition will be open to college-going children of WSWA member company employees. A notice will be sent to all WSWA members and information will be posted to WSWA’s website in the spring of 2O11.
Daniel Samost, from Walpole, Massachusetts, is a freshman majoring in biomedical engineering at Dartmouth College. Daniel graduated high school with high honors and was involved in varsity wrestling and lacrosse. He was also involved with many community service and school organizations and participated in various volunteer activities. Daniel’s father, Scott, is employed by Martignetti Companies in Norwood.
Stephan Chassagnoux, from Norwalk, Connecticut, is a freshman at the University of Connecticut-Storrs majoring in business and finance. Stephan was a member of the National Honor Society and involved in numerous community service clubs at his high school. He was also highly involved with his high school music program, playing the cello, upright bass and electric bass. Stephan’s father, Philippe, is employed by Empire Merchants in Brooklyn, New York.
Lisa Kasiewicz, from Trumbull, Connecticut, is a sophomore at Columbia University majoring in chemical engineering. Lisa was the valedictorian of her high school and made the Dean’s List at Columbia this past spring. She is involved with many extracurricular activities, including the Columbia Parliamentary Debate Team, Society of Women Engineers, Columbia Linguistics Society, to name a few. Lisa’s father, Jeff, is employed by Connecticut Distributors in Stratford, Connecticut.
Mary Katheryn Snyder, from Pensacola, Florida, is a freshman at the University of Notre Dame. Mary Katheryn was also the valedictorian of her high school and the recipient of numerous scholastic honors, and she was a member of the National Honor Society as well as many other clubs. Mary Katheryn participated in varsity soccer and varsity football cheerleading all throughout high school. Although her major is still undecided, Mshe is certain that her future career will contain an element of public service. Mary Katheryn’s father, Stuart, is employed by Southern Wine & Spirits in Pensacola, Florida.
