ON-THE-JOB BEER PERKS ARE OVER

There aren’t many jobs where you can actually drink beer while you work. But at the Carlsberg brewery in Denmark, imbibing beer on the job was a long-standing benefit . . . until now. New rules imposed by the brewer limit beer drinking to the canteen during lunch break. The employees were far from receptive to the news – about 25O production workers and truckers walked off their jobs in early April to protest the limits. Previously, Carlsberg had no restrictions on beer drinking as long as employees didn’t get drunk on the job. Interestingly, truck drivers are exempt from the new rules and are permitted to drink three beers outside the canteen. So the workers who aren’t driving can’t drink but the truckers can. But the truckers still went on strike in a show of solidarity. Alcohol ignition locks on the trucks prevent them from driving drunk. Well at least someone’s being responsible! The strike did end with the promise of talks at the table but no word on whether or not the “beer benefits” have been restored.
