The 14th ANNUAL NANTUCKET WINE FESTIVAL

will take place MAY 19 to 23.  The Festival is attended by over 175 global wineries, each typically represented by the winemaker or vineyard owner.  Celebrity chefs will lead seminars in wine and food pairings and perform cooking demonstrations.  The Nantucket Historical Association, Community Sailing and the Nantucket New School are the Festival’s charity partners.  Highlights of this year’s festival include: The 2OOth  anniversary celebration of Veuve Clicquot’s vintage Champagne release featuring Veuve Clicquot’s winemaker.  The Nantucket and Champagne in 181O: Two Perspectives Panel will be moderated by Darra Goldstein, Editor of gastronomica.  Ben Simons of the Nantucket Historical Association will present an overview of Nantucket’s history dating back to 181O. The Festival’s Luncheon Symposia, the equivalent of a graduate course in advanced wine philosophy, will feature tastings and discussions followed by lunch paired with the wines produced by participating vignerons.  The Grand Tasting will be held at the historic Nantucket Yacht Club.  There will be two sessions of the Grand Tasting on Saturday, MAY 22, and one session on Sunday, MAY 23.
This year’s “Luminary of the Year” award will be presented to chef Ming Tsai of the award-winning restaurant, Blue Ginger (Wellesley, MA).  The Gifford Cup will be presented to him during the festival’s auction dinner.  The festival’s 2O1O lineup includes: Laurent Drouhin of Maison Joseph Drouhin; Ray Coursen of Elyse Vineyards; Alex Gambal of Maison Alex Gambal; David Miner of Miner Family Vineyards; Robert and Maria Sinskey of Sinskey Vineyards; Joseph Carr of Carr Vineyards; Regina Martinelli of Martinelli Vineyards; father-daughter team David and Jasmine Hirsch of Hirsch Vineyards; Justin and Deborah Baldwin of Justin Vineyards; Maria Ponzi of Ponzi Vineyards; Alis Arrowood of Arrowood and numerous others.
Located on Nantucket Harbor, the White Elephant Hotel serves as NWF’s home base and hosts many of the Festival’s events, including The Harbor Gala, the Celebrity Chef and Winemaker Auction Dinners and the majority of the wine and food seminars.  Events are also held at locations throughout the island, including restaurants and private homes.
