COMINGS & GOINGS
Beam Global Spirits & Wine has acquired the Effen Vodka brand from the Sazerac Company. Named after the Dutch word for smooth Effen is a super-premium brand produced in Holland with a patented distillation process. The product line includes the original vodka Black Cherry Vodka and a limited edition Raspberry Vodka. As part of the transaction, Beam Global has sold the Old Taylor whiskey brand and inventory to Sazerac.
In other acquisition news, Buffalo Trace Distillery has purchased E.H. Taylor Bourbon. Beam Global Spirits & Wine sold the brand to Buffalo Trace which is the distillery where it actually originated from. “We are ecstatic about this transaction,” said Mark Brown, President and CEO of Buffalo Trace Distillery. “Part of our family is returning and we are thrilled to welcome home a true bourbon whiskey pioneer.” Taylor was the great-nephew of President Zachary Taylor. His link to Buffalo Trace dates back to 187O when he first purchased the distillery and took on the task of modernization. He later named the distillery O.F.C. (Old Fire Copper) and continued to invest large sums of money, making it a leader in the industry. Taylor over-extended himself financially – the end result was the sale of O.F.C. to George T. Stagg.
