Chuck Howard Self Determination Award
Jessica Czechowski of Anthony’s Liquor Mart in Gardner was recently awarded the Chuck Howard Self Determination Award from the Association of Developmental Disabilities Providers. The award, which is bestowed in honor of the late Chuck Howard, President of the ADDP, is presented to those “with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have demonstrated self-determination by exercising their right to make choices, pursue personal goals and assume responsibility for directing their own lives.” Jessica began at Anthony’s as a groundskeeper but was soon promoted to working at the redemption center due to her positive attitude, enthusiasm and performance. Despite having difficulty managing the cash register, Jessica took literacy courses to improve her math skills and was able to persevere. She is currently in charge of the recycling center which she runs independently. Jim Kraskouskas, the president of Anthony’s Liquor Mart, praised Jessica as being an “integral part of the store”.
