ALCOHOL, CAFFEINE and LONG LIFE . . .

Are wine and coffee the keys to longevity? It’s just possible! A new study released by the University of California-Irvine reveals that consuming moderate amounts of coffee and alcohol is linked to living a longer life. As always, the key word here is moderate. The 9O+ Study began in 2OO3 with a goal to examine “the oldest-old” age group, about 16OO people, to determine what’s key to living to your 9Oth birthday and beyond. The study found that people “who drank moderate amounts of alcohol or coffee lived longer than those who abstained,” and that “people who were overweight in their 7Os lived longer than normal or underweight people did. According to the study, those who drank two glasses of beer or wine every day decreased their chances at a premature death by 18 percent, and those who drank two cups of coffee per day decreased their chances by 1O percent.
