MODERNIZING THOSE BLUE LAWS
SUNDAY MORNING in Massachusetts have become a little more interesting. The state has altered its Blue Laws to allow for retail liquor stores to open as early as 1Oam on Sundays. The earlier openings will allow people to buy spirits in the morning hours for the first time since the Colonial era. The initial laws prohibiting liquor sales on Sunday were put into place to keep citizens from engaging in “sinful” behavior. However, neighboring states such as New Hampshire and Vermont have no issues with said sinful behavior and allow liquor stores to open as early as 6am on Sundays. This just levels the playing field.
