GUINNESS . . . IT REALLY IS GOOD FOR YOU!
Forget having an apple a day, try a Guinness a day to keep the doctor away! According to researchers at the University of Wisconsin, Guinness Stout, that beloved Irish elixir, may actually be good for you. While Diageo, the manufacturer, naturally makes no health assertion, scientific research shows a pint of Guinness a day may work as well as a low dose of aspirin to prevent heart attacks. The Wisconsin scientists who made the discovery gave Guinness to dogs that had narrowed arteries. They found that the Guinness worked as well as aspirin in preventing clots from forming. The researchers told a convention of the American Heart Association in Orlando, Florida, that a pint of Guinness taken at meal time had the best impact. They believe that antioxidant compounds in Guinness are responsible for the health benefits because they decrease harmful cholesterol gathering on the artery walls. Slainte!
