PETER DUFF: MAESTRO of MODERATION
Peter Duff died on February 27.
He was 😯 years old and had advanced cancer.
Mr. Duff an Englishman successful in other businesses
and collector and patron of the arts
found his love of wine transforming into a passion
a business finally a cause –
that of moderation, the true temperance.
He was executive vice president
of the International Wine and Spirit Competition
and co-founder, with Lord Montagu,
of the Wine Guild of the United Kingdom.
He worked with Robert Mondavi for recognition
of the traditional cultural integration of wine.
He was best known here as the chairman of A.I.M. –
Alcohol in Moderation, which he founded in 1991.
A.I.M., oriented to medical and social issues,
is a valued resource of developing information
related to alcohol consumption.
Its publications and website have documented research
indicating that moderate drinking is healthful.
Peter Duff’s wife of 51 years, Penelope, died recently.
He is survived by a son
and by a daughter, Helena Conibear,
the executive director of A.I.M., who,
with colleagues Sherry Webster and Alison Rees,
will ensure continuation ofhis work.
