WINE+TARGET=IMPULSE PURCHASES

IT’S BAD enough that Target is the impulse purchase capital of the world. Add a glass of wine into the mix and we’ll all be going broke! A new Target store in Chicago is slated to be the first in the nation to not only sell packaged alcohol but serve it in the store. Target has applied for a “Consumption on Premises” liquor license for its new store. A nearby Whole Foods Market has a wine bar and also serves beer and liquor. The liquor license is often used for restaurants, hotels, banquet halls, theaters, and bowling alleys that would like to sell liquor as a secondary activity to their main business. The new store is slated to open this fall. If the wine venture is a success you can expect to see more like it – which could be very good or very bad depending on how you look at it.
