A GIN & TONIC TO SOOTHE HAY FEVER?

ANYONE WHO’S EVER suffered from hay fever knows how miserable it is.  Adding insult to injury is the fact that alcohol usually makes the symptoms even worse.  But if you enjoy a gin and tonic you may be in luck.  New research from Asthma UK indicates that gin may better than other spirits for those with seasonal allergies.  Two chemicals – histamines and sulphites – are the culprits typically associated with triggering symptoms.  They are commonly found in darker, fermented beverages like red wine and beer.  However, clear spirits such as gin and vodka have a relatively low histamine content.  Gin in particular, due to its distillation process, doesn’t contain any sulphites unless a brand chooses to alter its recipe.  So while sipping on a G&T won’t cure your symptoms altogether, it is the best option and a tasty one at that!
